Frequently Asked Questions

The Spartan Online Academy will be available to any Boardman residential students in grades 7-12, with good attendance and a C average in all core subject areas. Interested Boardman residents will need to fill out an enrollment application. All requests will be considered on an individual basis.  

No, Spartan Online Academy students are full-time Boardman students so there are no extra 'tuition' costs.

Yes, students will be required to report in-person for unit and state tests or as deemed necessary by the Supervisor of Digital Learning. Families will be responsible for providing transportation, for their students, to and from school.

No, the Spartan Online Academy utilizes an online curriculum software called Edgenuity to deliver instruction. While the selected curriculum aligns with Ohio standards it is NOT a carbon copy of the Boardman curriculum.  

Instruction will be provided via video recording, by 3rd party licensed teachers. Additional teachers will also be assigned to students to hold office hours, provide feedback, and grading. Our goal is to have most, if not all, of these positions filled by Boardman teachers. 

Yes, all 12th grade students that have met the requirements for graduation will receive a Boardman diploma and are invited to attend in-person commencement with their fellow graduates. 

Yes, all Spartan Online Academy students grades will have the opportunity to sign out a Chromebook from the district at no additional cost.

Yes, students MUST have reliable, high-speed, internet at home as this is how instruction will be delivered.

Online students follow the same schedule as our in-person learners. Therefore online students will NOT be required to complete any coursework on those scheduled days off. 

Families considering transferring back to in person learning are to submit their request for a transfer in writing to Mr. Adams for review. 

Yes, so long as students satisfy all academic requirements and abide by the Boardman Athletic code of conduct.

Yes, students in grades 7-12 will have the option to report in-person to participate in band, orchestra, and choir, while completing the rest of their coursework from home. Families will be responsible for providing transportation, for their students, to and from school.
